I have been working insanely hard to find a problem in the design world that needs to be fixed and figuring out how I can fulfill that niche. I think it is in helping people seamlessly and quickly get off the ground in their very own business without having to do years of solid work and prep. I am essentially handing you your business and saying go make an exponential amount of money. Here is every tool, it is now up to you to see how many clients you want to take on.
My first area that I located that seemed to be lacking was welcome packets. People are not putting in the effort to prepare them, killing the experience, and losing the confidence the customer would have had with you. Potentially that laziness would likely cost you the job if another designer came better prepared with a welcome packet even though you may have years of experience on them. It all about perception. Welcome packets aren't fun or cheap by any means of the word. You need to prepare all the documents, brand your self (same font, same colors), a black folder, a logo, business cards. I also put in my welcome packets a business card, a welcome letter, a client questionnaire for them to fill out with return envelope to mail, services offered and my costs, trade partners I work with, my personal contact information as well as social media information, information of my preferred contractor, a thank you note, two pages of examples of my work (1 white and grey kitchens and the other is wood stained kitchens), about me, FAQS, contract, fee schedule, why hire an interior designer, about me, project timeline, and referral gift card. I also bring then a home sweet home sign as a welcome gift. I package it up nicely in a black presentation folder. Place a sticker with my logo on the front and a sticker on the back with my favorite designer saying, "simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication." I then tie it up like a present and attach a vintage key charm to the front. That way, I am not only coming to the meeting looking prepared with all my bases covered (especially if you follow all my other rules also), you are also coming with a gift, all of your information nicely packaged and process information easy to understand. The most valuable piece of the puzzle is that you earn their trust right off the bat and in my opinion you are almost guaranteed the job with a good welcome packet. You are already head and shoulders above other designer they might compare you too.
I have broken this down into a couple different purchasing options (when this goes live soon) to meet everyone's needs. The completed welcome packets, the template, a la carte, and the whole business package. Remember this is a work in process but when I get hasslefreestartup.com running, I have a pretty solid plan with how I want this to go. Changes and growing pains are necessary with any startup though!
1. Premade Welcome Packets- Sets of ten is recommended but I can do any number. Sets of ten are $1099. Individually they are $115 a piece. I will send you a list of questions to fill out. If you want we can chat over the phone or just be really detailed in email. I will purchase all the product, create you brand and business cards. All documents will be customized with your brand, colors, fonts, logos, etc. It will include a set of business cards, a folder with a logo brand sticker on front, a favorite design statement on back, tied up like a gift and tied off with an antique vintage key. When you open it up, it will be beautiful as well! You will see all the documents custom created for you, a business card displayed proudly up front, and a nice home sweet home sign as a welcome gift right up front. Very elegant and professional presentation. I will then box these up and mail them to you. Turn around time is 4-6 weeks, though it could be considerably shorter, it just all depends on the turn around time for all the accessories and personalized documents.
2. Buying my custom made template is another option. It is $500. You get all the documents above sent to you, You will get a welcome letter, a client questionnaire, a thank you note, a referral card, FAQS, Why to hire an interior designer, services offer, contract, fee schedule, about me, project timeline, two documents with picture examples on them, about me, etc. You will need to order the folders, signs, business cards, stickers, logo, ribbon, print the documents and keys should you want it to be the same. You will also be responsible for personalizing every document.
3. A La Cart aka Add Ons
1. List of companies that offer trade programs. I have done the research for you. You just go to their website, sign up for trade discount pricing and pass the savings along. You can apply to any one of these and I recommend hitting them all and requesting catalogues while you are there for your design consultations. $10
2. THIS NEXT ITEM IS PRICELESS and definitely going to be a top seller. I have spent weeks doing the research. I have compiled lists of where you can get free samples from to put in your roll bag at appointments. Hardwoods, laminate, cork flooring, vinyl, LVP, carpets, rugs, cabinet samples, formica countertop samples, Quartz and granite samples. Paint decks, fabric swatches back splashes etc. ALL FREE Trust me when I say you DO NOT want to go to the lengths I went to find these sites. I will also give you a list of design literature to make sure you have when you go to appointments. $39 This is just day one of deliveries!! They are coming over the next two weeks!
3. Logo Design if you are just purchasing the template- $30 to create a logo that works with your brand.
4. Business cards: If you are just buying the custom template but still having me design a logo for you, then I would assume you would have me design the business cards as well. $30 includes the price of the cards and the design.
5. Items to have on hand, prepared for client consultations and why. What dressing to impress means and why your accessories matching absolutely will make or break the choice of you and another designer $10
6. Help walking you through the business aspect of it. How you get your business license, how you get your resellers permit so you don't pay tax, buying a domain for your website. What are the legalities you want covered in your contract, etc. $40 and expect about 60-90 of phone time.
7. The other big one. My design process. In this I will include my process for contacting the client to set up the design consult, the work I do to prepare, what I bring with me and the process of my two hour consult. I then go into my 7-10 day design proposal turn around. What I include physically, what documents I put together, how I present them to the client etc. Should they want to move forward, we then go to the final design plan. I will outline my process from start to finish. This is really the meat and bones of how I run my business. $150
8. Basic website preparation. You buy the domain and Wix account. I will have my graphic designer/coder put together a website based off of what you want on there. $500
THE ULTIMATE PACKAGE: Literally everything you need. So, it breaks down like this... You could pay $1099 for the welcome packets and have 10 on hand. You could pay $40 for me to walk you through getting licenses and resellers permits etc. $10 for the trade partners, $39 for the samples list (because come on, that's a must have), $500 to have me send you your brand template once I have created it. $150 to walk through the design process and lay it out for you and $500 for a basic website. That's $2228. I am willing to give you ALL of this for $1800. With your business license domain, startup items to purchase and resellers permit, that still put you at around $2000 for a no brainer business handed to you. On top of that, you will have access to my weekly blog support. Less than $2000 for all needed documents PLUS 10 fancy welcome gifts that almost guarantee you those ten jobs, a business license, resellers permit, samples, trade partners, logos, business cards, and a website. A custom template you can change at anytime. This package more than pays for itself with one job and you are set up for ten right off that bat. What are you waiting for? Just the ten welcome packets alone are work that and you get the whole shebang. Business in a box! This couldn't be any easier.
